In-person Support Groups
The in-person support groups will be for the GP group members, those
who are newly diagnosed in the area, and friends and family members
of the GP sufferers. The test groups will be facilitated by
Carissa, Carey,
Lila, Colleen Beener, and Les Kelley.
The focus of the groups will be meeting and interacting with others
who suffer from GP. We hope that this will give everyone involved
the extra support and information that they need to better cope with
this disease.
We will be holding these meetings in a common meeting place such as
a Hospital meeting room, or a Community Center. Our hope is
to get
a GI doctor to attend to help answer general questions that some
people may have. This project is still in the early planning stages
however our projected beginning time is August. We will keep you
updated as plans develop.
We hope to continue to provide public awareness about Gastroparesis
by getting in touch with local GI physicians in the areas for their
permission to place our G-PACT brochures in their offices along with
information regarding the In-person contact program.
Physician referral service
We are in the process of compiling a list of Gastroenterologists and
motility specialists to take part in the referral network. We are
also considering polling the pediatric and adult group for names
and locations of good doctors.
Volunteers
Jo, Volunteer Coordinator, and Lila, Administrative Assistant, and
myself are working on ideas for recruiting volunteers for the vacant
Board of Directors positions, as well as the Fundraising position
and general volunteer work. One way we are planning to do this is by
attending the GP group sponsored chats. We feel this can be
used
as a good indicator of the people who have the ability to
handle
questions and adversity, in an informal manner.
