****G-PACT and Medtronic Form Partnership****
Recently, G-PACT and Medtronic, manufacturer of the gastric
pacemaker, became partners in our quest to research gastroparesis and
seek better treatment for this condition. Currently, discussions are
underway as to what this involves. More information will be sent in
future newsletters as this relationship progresses.
****Spotlight Patient****
Our October 2002 Spotlight Patient is Frank Rushing from Tennessee.
Frank was diagnosed with severe GP in the summer of 2002 after a series
of complicated GI problems and surgeries going back to 1996. On July 30,
2002, Frank went through surgery for the gastric pacemaker and he is a
pacemaker success story. Frank is now able to eat almost anything
including occasional steak! He noticed a dramatic increase in his
ability to eat food within the first nine days after the surgery. He had
to battle his insurance company for approval for the pacemaker implant,
but he won the battle and he is willing to help others fight for
approval as well. You can read his story in more detail at www.g-pact.org/spotlight.htm.
