G-PACT Motto "Striving for brighter days of treatment, knowledge, and cures" Quote "GP does not just stand for Gastroparesis. It also stands for Great People." G-PACT term of the month Gastric Emptying Scan (GES)- A gastric emptying scan is a test which is used to diagnose Gastroparesis. For this test, the patient eats a meal with radioactive material in it. Most hospitals use eggs for the test, although some use beef stew, oatmeal, or other foods. The patient is then placed under a big camera which measures the rate of gastric emptying. Pictures are taken every 15 minutes. At the end of the test, if there is an abnormally large amount of food left in the stomach the patient probably has Gastroparesis. This test typically lasts from 90 minutes to six hours. However, the vast majority of gastric emptying tests are done in 120 minutes. The radioactive material is a low dose and is not dangerous. It will not make a person glow in the dark! ****Director of Fundraising comments on first year of G-PACT**** "I find it very difficult to live in an industrialized society and suffer malnutrition secondary to gastroparesis. It is so easy to see those commercials on television portraying children suffering from malnutrition in third world countries, however our malnutrition is hidden from the world, and even most people we deal with. The only thing is we are not lacking knowledge, information, food supply, money to obtain food, NO we are simply lacking the ability of our stomachs to accommodate one of the necessities of life. As I joined with others who had gastroparesis and learned there were many more of us out there than I had to imagine, I wanted to help make it easier for the next person, so I became one of the directors of G-PACT. It has been a long and trying year, especially suffering from the disease itself and trying to help maintain a running organization, but G-PACT will and is making a difference, and that's why I cant wait to continue on with our mission to increase awareness, and promote cures and treatments options for all those and their loved ones dealing with gastroparesis." -Lisa Lindeberg, Director of Fundraising****G-PACT beats the odds!**** G-PACT has now completed one
year of operations! According to PA state statistics, 93% of all
organizations started one year ago are no longer in existence. However,
G-PACT is among the 7% who have managed to survive! We are thrilled
about our progress and how we have been able to beat these odds and get
through the first year with relatively few complications. It just proves
that people with GP are fighters and are not afraid of challenges even
when things become difficult. We are completely dedicated to our goal
and the people we will be helping. We are not going to let anything get
in the way of our goals no matter how much we have to sacrifice in order
to reach them.
